Overview   

Mobius Power, Inc. is an early-stage, rechargeable battery development company located in Fremont, California. Mobius is focused on developing improvements in lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery technology. The Company’s technology addresses many of the fundamental safety problems of Li-ion batteries and, at the same time, has the potential to enable continued growth in overall energy density. Because this technology can be applied across a broad spectrum of Li-ion battery designs, Mobius products have potential application in portable electronic devices such as mobile phones and notebook computers, as well as emerging markets in backup power and transportation systems, including hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs).

The market for rechargeable Li-ion batteries is large and growing, currently exceeding $6 billion in annual sales at the producer level. Safety concerns are challenging future increases in energy density and have generally limited the application of Li-ion technology to portable products. As a result, the substantial energy density benefits of currently available Li-ion batteries will be difficult to apply in emerging growth markets such as backup power and HEVs.

Mobius Technology   

Mobius technology addresses many of the drawbacks associated with currently available rechargeable Li-ion batteries. Laboratory testing indicates that the Mobius formula provides advantages in safety, high temperature stability and the development of high energy electrodes. The Mobius materials may be used with all known Li-ion systems and, therefore, could become a platform technology serving a broad range of battery designs and applications, including high capacity cells, high power cells and a few kilowatt-hour to multiple kilowatt-hour batteries.

Mobius technology is based on innovative and patented developments in the research laboratories at a major U.S. corporation. The Company was officially formed in early 2007 and funded with a substantial investment from Walden International, Lightspeed Venture Partners and Sigma Partners. Mobius is building a world-class team in Silicon Valley to continue development of the technology and refine battery cell designs for specific applications.
